Alan Zie Yongder

Alan Zie Yongder (b. 1944) is a multifaceted artist of Chinese descent. Born in China’s Fujian Province, spent most of his formative years in Hong Kong, and immigrated to the Philippines. Popular in the Optical Art movement, Yongder manipulates visual elements to create the illusion of depth and movement, as seen in his piece Red Dot on Mirror (1964). Upon his return to Hong Kong in the 70’s, Yongder went into publishing. He has since been hailed as a legend in the Hong Kong publishing industry having opened 32 magazines in a month in the 70’s, also introducing overseas publications to Hong Kong. He went on to become a founding member of the Hong Kong Designers Association and the Hong Kong Artists Alliance. In 2003, he opened his first furniture design concept store in Shanghai.
