Allan Cosio was a painter and sculptor born in Pampanga on 20 June 1941. He was known for abstract paintings in the op art style characterized by geometric shapes and illusions. Aside from this, his works were also known for splotches, strokes, and pouring of pigments. His works on sculptures, on the other hand, suggest primitiveness, characterized by massive blocks of unpolished wood and inspired by indigenous materials. Cosio was also known for his tapestries, in which he utilized capiz shells and various kinds of fibers.

Throughout his illustrious career, Cosio has staged exhibitions in numerous places in the Philippines and around the world. He was also awarded for his works, winning multiple prizes from the Art Association of the Philippines’ Annual Art Competition from 1975 to 1980. He was also a prize winner at the 1986 Baghdad International Art Festival for his piece Art for Peace. In recognition of his achievements in art, the French government awarded Cosio the Ordre des Artes et des Lettres with the rank of Chavalier. Allan Cosio died on 29 April 2021 in Pampanga from COVID-19.
