Daniel Coquilla

Daniel “Dansoy” Coquilla (b. 1970) is an artist known for his scenes of everyday Filipino life with his characters looking upwards. Born in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, he moved to Manila to pursue his studies at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. He was taken in by Fred Liongoren to be assistant at Liongoren Gallery where he gained exposure to works of artists such as Danilo Dalena, Norma Belleza, Onib Olmedo and Antonio Austria. He has exhibited his works locally and abroad, and has received several distinctions such as the Grand Prize in the Art Association of Philippines painting competition (1996), Juror’s Choice in the 4th Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards (1997), and the UP Gawad Chanselor para sa Sining Biswal (1998). In 2006, he became a recipient of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Thirteen Artists Award. ⁠
