Florencio B. Concepcion was an artist and educator born in Manila on 20 February 1930. He finished the four-year Fine Arts course at the University of the Philippines Diliman, one of the first to graduate in the institution’s history. Before entering UP, Concepcion took up cartooning in the United States. As such, he illustrated for comics such as Action, Halakhak, Pilipino, and Bulaklak while studying in college. He then obtained a Master’s degree in Italy in 1964. Upon his return, Concepcion taught in the University of the East, where he would be the Dean of its School of Fine Arts until 1994.

As an artist, his earliest works were in the Impressionist style, executed in thick impasto. Later, he would dwell into abstract expressionism, evocating spatial depth through texture and color harmony. Concepcion would describe this style as inspired by music, of which he deeply appreciates. Aside from impasto, he was also known for his watercolor works and figure drawings. He would write a book on figure drawing in 1990. Florencio Concepcion would die in 2006 aged 76.
