Mariano Ching is a painter, illustrator, photographer, and printmaker born in 1970. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Painting from the University of the Philippines. During his formative years, Ching was influenced by watching anime such as Mazinger Z and Voltes V, widely popular during his youth. In the 1990s, he was part of Surrounded by Water, an art group based in Angono, Rizal.

In 1998, he won his first major award for his illustrations in the book Mayroon Akong Alagang Puno. Ching would later receive the Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2006.
