Neil Doloricon

Leonilo “Neil” Doloricon (1957-2021) was a visual artist, printmaker, and social critic regarded as one of the pillars of social realism in Philippine art. His artistic practice spanned for over 40 years and was known for his works that react to the present social conditions of the country.

As an educator, he taught at the University of the Philippines and was former dean of the UP College of Fine Arts (1998-2001). He chaired the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) and was one of the founding members of Kaisahan - an organization of social realist artists that critiqued Western influences in our national identity and helped define political art in the country. He was also a long-term editorial cartoonist for several newspapers such as The Manila Times and Malaya Business Insights.

Doloricon has participated in several exhibitions both locally and abroad. He has received many distinctions such as the Gawad para sa Sining Biswal and Thirteen Artists Award (1990) from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the Guillermo Tolentino Professorial Chair (2014), and the Fernando Amorsolo Professorial Chair (1994/2011) awarded by the UP College of Fine Arts.
