In this panel moderated by Mowelfund assistant audiovisual archivist Arvin Jason Aquino, Jap Oasan, Jigs Ancheta, Erwin Romulo, Jun Sabayton, and Julie Nealega will discuss various approaches to video art preservation, with a particular emphasis on digitizing analog formats.

As the shifts in technology continue to progress, the talk will expound on current preservation methods done through various equipment and techniques. It will also explore the role of institutions in the preservation of such artworks, and how metadata– such as artist notes and installation details–is crucial to curatorial practice, from ensuring proper conservation to preparing for exhibitions with audiovisual works.

This ArtSpeak program is organized in line with “Transitions and Continuity: Selections from the Ateneo Art Gallery Video Art Collection,” featuring works by Martha Atienza, Kaloy Olavides, Mark Salvatus, and Gerardo Tan, on view from 10 August to 31 October 2024 at the 3F Ateneo Art Gallery, Fredesvinda Almeda Consunji Gallery, Ambeth R Ocampo Gallery, Elizabeth Gokongwei Gallery, and Alicia P Lorenzo Gallery, Areté, Ateneo de Manila University.
