Find out more of the interesting and engaging back stories of the works in Eric Zamuco’s Another Other at ArtSpeak.

Eric Zamuco’s exhibit at the Ateneo Art Gallery brings together works from the past 5 years created in two countries The installations on exhibit run the gamut of school chairs with neon lights to cut up pieces of comics to used bars of soap and toddler chairs to a wall full of photos, all meticulously arranged by the artist himself.

In Story Book Endings, he fashions particle boards formerly used as shipping palettes into shelves and places on them book ends with laser cut images taken from Esteban Villanueva’s Basi Revolt series of paintings. The images are depictions of hangings and decapitations of local rebels by foreign colonizers that speak of a swift implementation of punishment to ensure colonial order. The work can also be seen as a study on shame and how one group is benefitted by it and the other denied of it. Perhaps literally connecting it to narrative, the work is also about unresolved histories, open ended issues and perhaps even of cultural and historical dead ends for a nation.
