SHAPE: A Visual Art Summer Workshop at the Ateneo Art Gallery

Monday, 04 May 2015 to Friday, 22 May 2015

Artists are often shaped by fellow artists. Skill and sensibility are honed through exposure and practice. This summer, the Ateneo Art Gallery offers the young art enthusiast a chance to be mentored by critically acclaimed practicing professionals: painters, sculptors, installation artists, and illustrators, in a simulated studio setting.

Sessions will be structured as follows:

  • They will begin with a 30 to 45-minute Artist’s Talk, where students can better understand the mind, and motivation, of their mentors. These talks are meant to introduce the student to the professional artist’s process, spark their creativity and lead them to conceptualize their own work.
  • Students will spend the next 2 hours on an activity inspired by the artists talk. Activities will be designed by organizers in collaboration with mentors. Each participant will have their own workspace, where artist-mentors will continue to offer one-on-one guidance for the duration of the session.
  • Each 3-hour session will be followed by an extra hour of “Studio Time”, optional free time where student artists can continue to work on their own projects or consult with peers. The Art Gallery shall close by 5 PM.

The workshop will follow a planned learning continuum with each session having its own theme and hands-on activity. Topics shall include an overview of the creative process, illustration, charcoal drawing, watercolor painting, oil painting, kinetic and interactive art, and installation.

By the end of the workshop, students will have their own artistic diary and beginnings of a portfolio they can continue to build over time.

This workshop is open to students aged 15 to 20 years old. Only 12 slots are available.

Workshop Fee: Php 15,000

Students will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. Interested applicants may register starting April 6. Registration shall close once all 12 slots have been filled. Slots will be reserved for an applicant upon full payment of the workshop fee.
