ARTISTS' STATEMENT:
In the darkest of times when fear and false information cast their shadow, visual artists come together to paint Saranggola ng Pag-asa. The theme was in response to a kite flying activity launched nationwide on the same day.
The mural project took barely a week to organize and it culminated in a two and a half hour lightning mural, painted on a grand rally stage by 21 artists in front of thousands of people.
The collective activity partakes in a celebratory movement of reflection, critique and longing. The painting is an expression of our dreams and aspirations for the nation. May this piece be one among countless that have been offered and shared; and hopefully add voice for the unheard and silenced. In solidarity with muralists in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. We offer in unison and in one breath, a symphony of images. Each stroke in this monumental canvas celebrates the power of volunteerism and collaboration. Awakened and with growing urgency, we trust that the winds of change will help carry our burdens to soar towards a more just and humane Philippines.
